The Gingerbread House
The Gingerbread House Early Learning Center is a private, non-profit, state licensed early learning center located at 318 Girault Avenue, on the campus of Adams State in Alamosa Colorado. Our telephone number is 719-587-7162. The center is open to all children, ages two years six months to the age of ten, regardless of race, religion, sex, or economic background. The Gingerbread House is dedicated to providing low cost, high quality child care and preschool services to all registered children.
The center is dedicated to the concept that learning is fun. The goal of the center is to instill good attitudes in children about learning, thereby helping them to move on to other educational opportunities with courage and excitement.
We offer learning through special programs of instruction in music, bilingual communication, dental hygiene, physical education and preschool. All lessons are geared to the preschool aged child and are deemed developmentally appropriate. Literacy is the backbone of all of our programs, and teachers plan all activities around the arts of reading and writing.
The Gingerbread House offers child care services from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday during the school year. We also offer preschool services for children who do not qualify for the Head Start Program, or the Colorado Preschool Program.
Colorado Preschool Program:
Children must be four years of age by June first, or have missed the cut off date to attend public school. Literacy based lessons are presented to children each Monday through Thursday. The morning session accommodates 30 children and begins at 9:00 A.M. and ends at 12:00. The afternoon session accommodates 15 children and begins at 1:30 P.M. and ends at 4:30. Wrap around child care services are available for children who need extended care. This program is sponsored by Alamosa Schools and we work closely with local kindergarten teachers to assure that our instruction meets school district standards.
Head Start Program:
Children must be three years six months of age by June first. Classes are held each Monday through Thursday. The morning session accommodates 30 children and begins at 8:00 A.M. and ends at 12:00. The afternoon session accommodates 30 children and begins at 12:30 and ends at 4:30 P.M. The program focuses on school readiness and prepares children both socially and academically for school success. This program is sponsored by Alamosa Head Start, and we must meet all standards that are set by the local government for Head Start programs.
All programs follow the Adams State academic schedule, meaning when the college is closed for holidays and breaks, our center is closed as well.
