Chapter 1607 Reserve Educational Assistance Program

The Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) is an educational assistance program enacted by Congress to provide benefits to members of the reserve components who are called or ordered to “Active service” in response to a war or national emergency as declared by the President or Congress.

The “reserve components” consist of Army Reserve, Naval Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, and the Air National Guard.

Apply for Benefits:

To apply for educational assistance under chapter 1606 you will need to fill out VA form 22-1990 and submit it to the VA Regional Office.

The Veterans On-Line Application (VONAPP) website is an official U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website that allows veterans and other designated individuals to apply for benefits using the internet.

Communicate With Your School Certifying Official:

Verify Attendance:

You must verify your attendance with the VA every month before payment is issued. You can do this using the VA's Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) service, or by calling 1-877 VA-ECERT (1-877-823-2378)

The VA asks that you contact them if you haven't received payment at the end of two weeks after you verify you attendance.

Receiving Payments:

You will receive monthly payments based on your training time (i.e. full time, three quarter time, half time. . .) The current rates can be found using the following link:
