These scholarships are awarded automatically to qualified undergraduate students. No application is necessary. All award amounts are given for the regular academic year and are divided evenly between the fall and spring semesters. The Experience Colorado Scholarship may be available in the summer semester, but all other funding is only available in the fall and spring.You must enroll full time in order to receive these awards. Full-time enrollment may include Extended Studies or graduate level coursework (see ASU Scholarship Policy).
Experience Colorado Scholarship
Awarded to all non-resident and international students (WUE and NM reciprocal students excluded) who have a CCHE Index of 80 or higher at admission. Valued at $5000 for 2018-19, it is renewed annually as long as the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress. Lone Star Scholarship
Texas residents who have graduated from a Texas high school and have a CCHE Index
of 80 or higher at the time of admission will be awarded the Lone Star Scholarship valued at $3000 for up to four years. It is
renewed annually as long as the student maintains Satisfactory Academic
Progress. Qualified students can also receive Experience Colorado.
All first-year students who were valedictorians or ranked first in their class, as documented on their final high school transcript, will receive an additional $1000.
Merit ScholarshipsWe automatically award renewable merit scholarships to our first-time students based on CCHE Admission Index Scores. Merit scholarships for continuing students will be made each year in May based on cumulative GPA at Adams State University. Transfer students with at least 24 credits will be evaluated on the same standard at the time of transfer as continuing students.
Chairs' Scholarship - $500/year
- Continuing Students: 3.25-3.49 cumulative GPA
Vice President's Scholarship - $1000/year
- First-time Students: 100-119 CCHE Index Score (formerly Promising Scholar Award)
- Continuing Students: 3.50-3.89 cumulative GPA
President's Scholarship - $1500 per year:
- First-time Students: 120 or higher CCHE Index Score (formerly Academic Achievement Award)
- Continuing Students: 3.90 or higher cumulative GPA
Junior and Senior Room Waivers
Students who live in the dorms or apartments as juniors and seniors are eligible for a room waiver. Juniors will receive $500 per semester and seniors, $700. Faculty Drive apartments are not eligible at this time. Students who indicate that they will live on campus on their FAFSA will be processed automatically. Grizzly Partner Scholarship
Awarded at admission to undergraduate students from Alamosa, Archuleta, Chaffee, Conejos, Costilla, Huerfano, Mineral, Rio Grande, and Saguache Counties in Colorado, as well as Taos and Rio Arriba Counties in New Mexico.
This award, valued at up to $3200 per year ($1000 for tuition, $1100 for room and $1100 for board), is for full-time freshmen and sophomores and requires recipients to live on campus. Students who indicate that they will live on campus on their FAFSA will be processed automatically.
The award for students who live in an apartment without a meal plan is $2000 per year ($500 for tuition and $500 for room per semester).
Juniors, seniors and Faculty-Drive residents are not eligible for this award.
For our valued San Luis Valley students who graduated from an SLV high school with a CCHE index of 80 or better and who qualify for a full Pell grant are guaranteed need-based grants and scholarships in an amount that covers their normally assessed tuition and fees plus $1000 for books and supplies. To qualify during the 2018-19 academic year, students must complete a FAFSA and all requirements and enroll full-time on campus by July 1, 2018. Additionally, students must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress to receive funding.

If you are a transfer student returning to Adams State University to complete your degree and originally graduate from one of the San Luis Valley high schools listed above, you could be eligible to receive the SLV Promise Scholarship. You must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA in all transferred course work applicable to your program of study to qualify and continue to make Satisfactory Academic Progress.
