You can choose one of four degree programs
English with an emphasis in Liberal Arts
A basic liberal education that can open doors in business, government, and more specialized fields such as public relations and advertising.
English with an emphasis in Secondary Education
Prepares students to teach high school. English teachers are in high demand and ASU graduates have been placed throughout the U.S.
English with an emphasis in Creative Writing
Explore your creativity while learning to write for many audiences in many different genres.
English with an emphasis in:
Develop the critical thinking and communication skills you need to enhance your career prospects, and have fun while doing so. 18 credits total, and the only required course is ENG 203, Major Themes in Literature.
And a note to STEM and Computer Science majors: If you take ENG 203; ENG 226, Basic Grammar; and either ENG 357, Linguistics, or ENG 363, Advanced Composition, you’re already half-way there!
Creative Writing Minor
Learn the essentials of narrative and the power of poetry. 18 credits total. Two required courses, ENG 203 and ENG 227, Introduction to Creative Writing, plus three creative writing courses of your choice, and one specialized reading course.
